Lines naming a toll plaza are the published price of a plaza the route actually drives through. Lines reading "tolled road" have their distance measured from the route but charge a national average rate; lines reading "motorway (assumed)" assume the distance too, because plaza-level data does not exist yet for that country. Bridge, tunnel, vignette and published transit prices are actual prices.

What we do not know

Every toll on this route comes from a published tariff. No line rests on an assumption.

About this route

The Turkish half of this road to the Aegean runs through İstanbul. Past Kapıkule the route reaches İzmir not over the Çanakkale bridge but by the North Marmara Motorway, the Yavuz Sultan Selim and Osmangazi bridges and the İzmir motorway, which is why Turkey alone takes almost half of everything the trip pays in tolls, the Osmangazi bridge and the O-5 above all. On the European side Austria charges the Tauern and Karawanken tunnels on top of its vignette, and Slovenia sells nothing shorter than a seven-day vignette, even for a few hours' transit.

What this figure leaves out

Accommodation, food, waiting at borders, tyres and wear, green card insurance, parking. Only fuel and the charges on the road itself are counted.
