Lines naming a toll plaza are the published price of a plaza the route actually drives through. Lines reading "tolled road" have their distance measured from the route but charge a national average rate; lines reading "motorway (assumed)" assume the distance too, because plaza-level data does not exist yet for that country. Bridge, tunnel, vignette and published transit prices are actual prices.
About this route
The Berlin route's sibling by a different road: the way we measured turns west rather than north after Serbia and enters Austria through Croatia and Slovenia. That is four charging regimes one after another — Serbia by the kilometre at a booth, Croatia on a transit fare, Slovenia on a vignette, and Austria on a vignette plus a separate charge for each of several tunnels. Austria's two-part arrangement matters most here: buying the vignette does not get you through the Karawanken. At the German border the motorway charge for a car stops and the expense moves entirely into the tank.
What this figure leaves out
Accommodation, food, waiting at borders, tyres and wear, green card insurance, parking. Only fuel and the charges on the road itself are counted.
